Ingredients

  • Crisco® All-Vegetable Shortening
  • 2 1/2 C. all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. Clabber Girl® Baking Powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. Spice Islands® Ground Saigon Cinnamon
  • 2 eggs, for frying
  • 2 C. milk powdered sugar
  • 1 C. sliced strawberries

Directions

  1. Heat shortening in a large heavy skillet, adding shortening until a depth of 1/4-inch is reached;
  2. heat to 375°F.
  3. In a small mixing bowl, sift flour together with Clabber Girl Baking Powder, salt and cinnamon; set aside.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, beat eggs and milk together.
  5. Gradually add flour mixture to egg mixture, beating until smooth.
  6. Pour 1/3 to 1/2 C. batter into a wide-spout funnel, holding your finger over the opening.
  7. Allow batter to flow through opening of funnel into the hot oil in a tight coil pattern.
  8. Fry 2 minutes on each side, or until cakes are golden brown.
  9. Drain on absorbent towels.
  10. Repeat procedure until all batter is used.
  11. Sprinkle cooling funnel cakes with powdered sugar and sliced strawberries.
  12. Serve warm.
