Spiced Apple Walnut Bars

Ingredients

 

  • 1/2 C. Crisco® Baking Sticks All-Vegetable Shortening
  • 1 1/4 C. sugar
  • 1 C. applesauce
  • 1 tsp. Spice Islands® Pure Vanilla Extract
  • 2 C. all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. Clabber Girl® Baking Soda
  • 1 tsp. Spice Islands® Ground Saigon Cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. Spice Islands® Ground Nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp. Spice Islands® Ground Cloves
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 C. raisins
  • 1/2 C. crushed cornflakes
  • 1/2 C. chopped walnuts
  • 2 Tbsp. Crisco® Baking Sticks All-Vegetable Shortening

Directions

  1. HEAT oven to 350ºF. Coat a 15 x 10 x 1-inch baking sheet with no-stick cooking spray like Baker’s Joy®.
  2. MIX shortening and 1 C. sugar at medium high speed of electric mixer 5 minutes or until light. Add applesauce and vanilla.
  3. COMBINE flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and salt in large bowl. Add to applesauce mixture; stir until combined. Stir in raisins. Spread in prepared baking sheet.
  4. COMBINE crushed cornflakes, nuts, remaining 1/4 C. sugar and melted shortening; sprinkle evenly over batter.
  5. BAKE 20 to 25 minutes or until done. Cool; cut in bars.
