Ingredients

  • 1/2 C. Crisco® All-Vegetable Shortening
  • 1/2 C. sugar
  • 1 C. Grandma’s® Original Molasses
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 1/2 C. all-purpose flour, sifted
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. Clabber Girl® Baking Powder
  • 1/2 tsp. Clabber Girl® Baking Soda
  • 1 tsp. Spice Islands® Ground Ginger
  • 2 tsp. Spice Islands® Ground Saigon Cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. Spice Islands® Ground Cloves
  • 1 C. hot water

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Cream shortening with sugar. Blend in molasses. Beat in eggs, one at a time.
  3. Sift together flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda and spices. Add to creamed mixture alternately with hot water.
  4. Turn into a greased 9x9x2-inch baking pan. Bake in oven for 40 minutes. Cool.
