Crisp Molasses Cookies Recipe

Ingredients

  • 3 C. enriched flour, sifted
  • 1/3 C. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. Clabber Girl® Baking Soda
  • 2 tsp. Spice Islands® Ground Ginger
  • 2 tsp. Spice Islands® Ground Saigon Cinnamon
  • 3/4 C. Crisco® All-Vegetable Shortening
  • 2/3 C. Grandma’s® Original Molasses
  • 1 Tbsp. vinegar

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 400F.
  2. Sift first six ingredients into a mixing bowl.
  3. Cut in shortening with pastry blender or fingers until it resembles coarse meal.
  4. Heat molasses just to boiling point; add vinegar and gradually stir into flour-shortening mixture.
  5. Chill dough until stiff enough to roll (3 hours or overnight).
  6. Roll dough 1/16 inch thick on lightly floured board. Shape with cookie cutters.
  7. Place on lightly greased baking sheets. Bake 6 to 7 minutes or until edges have lightly browned.
  8. Cool. Store in tightly closed tin box.
