Blonde Brownies Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 C. margarine
  • 2 1/4 C. packed brown sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 1/2 C. sifted flour
  • 2 1/2 tsp. Clabber Girl® Baking Powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. Spice Islands® Pure Vanilla Extract
  • 1 C. chopped walnuts or pecans
  • Frosting (if desired)
  • Garnish: walnut or pecan halves

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350° F. and grease a 15×10-inch sheet pan.
  2. Melt margarine in large saucepan. Add brown sugar and blend well. Remove from heat and cool by putting into the refrigerator for 5 minutes.
  3. Add eggs and dry ingredients. Add vanilla and walnuts. Stir until just combined.
  4. Spread in greased 15×10-inch sheet pan.
  5. Bake at 350° F. for 30 to 35 minutes. Insert a toothpick in the center of the brownies and make sure it comes out clean before removing from the oven.
  6. Cool completely before frosting and cut into squares, then garnish with nut halves or lemon zest.
  7. To prepare frosting, beat the butter until smooth and fluffy. Add the powdered sugar, 1/2 C. at a time, and beat until incorporated. Add 2 Tbsp. of the heavy cream and beat well on medium speed. Add the vanilla extract. If the mixture is too stiff, add more milk until the mixture is firm and creamy.
