Angel Food Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 C. sugar, divided
  • 1 tsp. Rumford® Baking Powder
  • 1 C. cake flour
  • 1 C. egg whites 6-7 eggs
  • 1 tsp. Spice Islands® Cream of Tartar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. Spice Islands® Pure Vanilla Extract

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 300° F.
  2. Sift ¼ c. of sugar, baking powder, and flour together three times. Beat egg whites, cream of tartar, salt and vanilla extract until frothy. Add remaining ¾ c. of sugar, then continue beating until stiff peaks form, but not dry.
  3. Fold in the flour mixture, about 3 or 4 Tbsp. at a time until all has been added. Pour into ungreased angel food cake pan and bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
  4. Invert pan on wire cake rack until cool. Leave plain, serve with fresh fruit or frost with your favorite frosting.
