Ingredients

  • 3 3/4 C + 2 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
  • 1 Tbsp. Clabber Girl® Baking Powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. Clabber Girl® Baking Soda
  • 2 tsp. granulated sugar
  • 1 C. butter, cold and cut into pieces
  • 1 3/4 C. buttermilk
  • 2 tsp. honey
  • 1 tsp. kosher salt for topping
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, baking soda, and sugar.
  3. In a food processor, or in a bowl with a pastry blender, pulse or cut in the butter until mixture has a crumbly texture (butter will be pea sized). Place mixture in a large bowl.
  4. In a separate bowl or measuring cup, whisk together the buttermilk and honey.
  5. Using a fork or rubber spatula, stir in the buttermilk and honey mixture until there are only a few dry spots left and a dough has formed.
  6. Using your hands, lightly knead the dough until it begins to hold together.
  7. Transfer the mixture to a floured work surface; press dough into a rectangle.
  8. Tri-fold like a letter then use a rolling pin to roll it out to about 1/2″ thickness. Tri-fold again and roll out to a 1/2″ thick rectangle.
  9. With a bench knife, trim the edges to make a clean rectangular shape. Cut the dough into 12 squares. Place on a parchment lined baking sheet.
  10. Brush the beaten egg onto the tops of the biscuits and sprinkle each with kosher salt.
  11. Bake 15-18 minutes or until golden brown.
