Classic Chocolate Brownies

Ingredients

  • 2/3 C. all-purpose flour, sifted
  • 1/2 tsp. Clabber Girl® Baking Powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 6 1/2 Tbsp. Crisco® All-Vegetable shortening
  • 2 oz squares unsweetened chocolate, melted
  • 1 C. sugar
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 tsp. Spice Islands® Pure Vanilla Extract
  • 1/2 C. nuts, chopped

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350° F.
  2. In a mixing bowl, sift flour once, measure. Add baking powder and salt to flour, sift again; set aside.
  3. In a saucepan, melt chocolate; add butter and blend together.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine sugar and eggs. Add the chocolate mixture, beating thoroughly. Stir in the flour mixture, vanilla, and nuts.
  5. Pour into greased 8x8x2-inch baking pan.
  6. Bake at 350° F for 35 minutes. Cool slightly.
  7. Cut in squares before removing from pan.
