Ingredients

  • 1 loaf Challah bread
  • 1/2 C. milk
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 tsp. Spice Islands® Ground Saigon Cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. Spice Islands® Ground Nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. Spice Islands® Pure Vanilla Extract
  • 2 Tbsp. Crisco® Pure Vegetable Oil
  • 1 C. brown sugar
  • 1/2 C. Crisco® Butter Flavor All-Vegetable Shortening, melted
  • 1-2 apples, diced
  • 2 Tbsp. syrup

Directions

  1. Slice the bread into large, thick slices.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, spices and oil.
  3. Soak the sliced bread in the milk mixture to fully coat each slice.
  4. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat on the stovetop.
  5. Place soaked bread onto the skillet and cook each side until golden brown.
  6. In a small bowl, combine brown sugar and melted shortening to make the crumble.
  7. Place cooked French toast on a plate, and top with crumble, apples, and syrup.
